Step into a world 200 years ago
By the port of Elsinore is a house with a very special story. The house can be traced back to the late 1500s, but today it stands as it looked in the 1780th
An experience for all the senses
To walk through the front door at Standgade 91 is like moving almost 200 years back in time. The old shop is miraculously preserved with the old furniture from the 1820s. The worn grocery disk and the engraved names on the walls bear witness to the many thousands of sailors who have come and gone. The shop smells of rope, tobacco, spices and beer and here are still temptations for a sailor: Dutch clay pipes, the famous Elsinore-hat, canvas, chart and more.
Skipperstuen, the old captain’s lounge
Move into the spaces next to the shop and you will find the old captain's lounge. Here sailors could get served a meal and a dram. Today the large writing desk in skipper’s living room shows how the office looked around the middle of the last century. The floor around the desk with its wear witnesses the busy lives that have visited the room.
